Empowering Ability
The Empowering Ability Podcast (think - radio talk show on the internet) is a platform where important stories and lessons learned are shared about disability. Host of the show, Eric Goll, was inspired to created the podcast by his sister Sarah, who has a developmental disability. It is a great place to hear fresh perspectives to inspire people with disabilities, their families, their supporters, and the broader community.
The I in Independent Planning and Facilitation
There is increasing recognition in Ontario that enabling people with disabilities to lead satisfying and productive lives involves having them lead their lives, and that this means recognizing them as autonomous citizens of the communities in which they live. This implies that they have control over key decisions about their lives, from how they will spend their days to with whom and in what sorts of circumstances they will live.
Building a Culture of Learning
From its beginnings in 2006, the leaders of Facilitation Wellington Dufferin (FWD) have been on an intentional learning journey. As a grass roots organization committed to supporting people with developmental disabilities to build meaningful lives in community, FWD has worked tirelessly to build a culture of learning. Facilitators, families, people with disabilities, and the wider community work together to share information, build capacity, and constantly learn and grow.

Through the Metaphor of the Seasons
It was when I first read the essay, “There Is a Season” in Let Your Life Speak by Parker J. Palmer that I recognized what a powerful metaphor the spiral seasons of life are for all of us. As I reflect on the practice of independent facilitation, this metaphor comes immediately to my mind.
